Reddington Disciplinary Case Brings Earlier Client Disputes Back Into Focus

The attorney who represented Lindsay Clancy is now the subject of a Massachusetts bar disciplinary proceeding, but the allegations at issue stem from legal matters that came years before the Clancy case.

Kevin J. Reddington, a prominent Massachusetts criminal defense attorney, is facing a four-count petition filed by Massachusetts Bar Counsel with the Board of Bar Overseers on June 23, 2026.

The filing raises allegations involving Reddington’s handling of client funds, financial recordkeeping and his representation of two former clients.

None of the allegations described in the petition are tied to Reddington’s defense of Clancy.

That distinction is important as news of the disciplinary proceeding circulates because Reddington became widely known outside legal circles after representing Clancy in her high-profile murder case.

Allegations Span Multiple Clients

The disciplinary case centers on conduct involving several earlier matters.

Among the allegations are claims that Reddington did not properly oversee the handling of his client trust account and that required financial records were not adequately maintained.

Bar Counsel also alleges that money provided by one client for a specific legal expense was instead used to pay another attorney for work connected to a different client.

The client is identified in the petition as “TC.” According to the filing, TC provided Reddington with $18,000, including roughly $3,000 intended for a forensic evaluation.

Bar Counsel alleges that the $3,000 was not maintained in trust for TC.

Questions Raised Over Another Representation

The petition also examines Reddington’s representation of Jose Polanco, who retained him in 2017 in connection with a post-conviction case.

Bar Counsel alleges that communication with Polanco was inadequate and that certain aspects of the case were not sufficiently investigated or advanced.

The filing also raises issues involving legal research, court documents, affidavits and citations.

Bar Counsel points to the size of Reddington’s criminal caseload during part of that period, alleging that he was handling as many as 100 to 150 active cases.

Correia Dispute Resurfaces

One of the most notable portions of the disciplinary case involves former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia II.

Correia previously hired Reddington to defend him in his federal criminal case. The disciplinary petition alleges that the agreed fee was $150,000, plus expenses, and that Reddington later sought an additional $50,000 as trial approached.

The petition also alleges that Reddington sought a 20% interest in Correia’s SnoOwl business as a condition of continuing the representation.

The dispute had already attracted public attention.

In a WSAR report published roughly two years ago, reporter Pete Braley detailed Correia’s allegations as the former mayor pursued an early release from his federal prison sentence.

Correia accused Reddington of providing ineffective assistance and made other allegations concerning the attorney’s handling of his case.

Reddington rejected Correia’s accusations and called him a liar.

What This Does — and Does Not — Mean for the Clancy Case

The disciplinary proceeding does not accuse Reddington of misconduct in connection with his representation of Lindsay Clancy.

Instead, the petition deals with separate matters involving former clients and conduct allegedly occurring years earlier.

The filing also represents allegations by Bar Counsel, rather than a final determination by the Board of Bar Overseers.

As the disciplinary process moves forward, the underlying allegations will be subject to review and response.

For now, the connection to the Clancy case is primarily that the attorney who handled that nationally watched defense is now facing a separate professional disciplinary proceeding involving earlier representations.
