FALMOUTH, Massachusetts — A coordinated multi-agency enforcement operation resulted in 19 illegal off-road dirt bikes being stopped within a 24-hour period as local and state agencies stepped up efforts to address complaints involving reckless riding, property damage, trespassing, and unsafe operation on public roadways.
The enforcement effort brought together officers from the Falmouth Police Department, Falmouth Department of Marine and Environmental Services, and Massachusetts Environmental Police. The agencies have joined forces in recent months in response to increasing complaints about illegal dirt bike activity throughout the community.
The heightened enforcement effort culminated in a significant weekend operation that resulted in 19 dirt bike operators being stopped, with various citations issued.
Investigators also determined that riders were traveling to Falmouth from communities throughout southeastern Massachusetts and beyond. The operators identified during the enforcement action came from Fall River, Framingham, Hyannis, Marstons Mills, Dennis, Milford, Nantucket, and Deerfield Beach, Florida.
None of the operators stopped during the operation were from Falmouth.
The agencies emphasized that illegal off-road riding and associated property damage can carry serious consequences, including citations, arrest, and the towing and holding of vehicles and equipment.
Multi-agency patrols and enforcement efforts will continue in the coming months as authorities work to address illegal riding, protect public and private property, and promote safety on Falmouth roadways and properties.
