Saturday evening at the New England Rodeo, a frightening accident involving Cape Cod Rose and her rider, Addison, quickly became a powerful example of teamwork, compassion, and people coming together when it mattered most.
As Cape Cod Rose entered the corral area for the barrel racing event, something startled her, causing Addison to fall from the horse. Cape Cod Rose then struck the fencing before Addison was able to regain control, turn her around, and safely guide her out of the corral.
When those nearby rushed to help, it became clear that Cape Cod Rose had suffered a serious laceration and significant injury to her chest.
Without hesitation, New England Rodeo personnel, members of the Rochester Fire Department, Rochester Police Department detail crews, and several bystanders sprang into action. Working together, they used trauma dressings and bandaging supplies to control the bleeding and stabilize Cape Cod Rose until she could be transported for emergency veterinary care.
Once she was stabilized, Cape Cod Rose was carefully loaded into a horse trailer and transported to Tufts Veterinary Hospital in Grafton, Massachusetts, where she received the critical care she needed.
Today, we have some very good news: Cape Cod Rose is expected to make a full recovery.
She has a long road of healing ahead of her, but this outcome is an incredible relief to everyone who witnessed the accident and everyone who immediately stepped forward to help.
This was truly a team effort.
The quick thinking, skill, cooperation, and compassion shown by so many people made a tremendous difference. In a frightening moment, there was no hesitation—only people focused on one goal: helping an animal in need.
