An Abington, Massachusetts, woman pleaded not guilty Friday to charges alleging she seriously injured her 2-month-old daughter, who remains hospitalized with severe head trauma.
Jillian Timmons, 34, was arraigned in Brockton District Court on two counts of assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury and one count of reckless endangerment of a child. Prosecutors said the investigation began after South Shore Hospital reported suspected abuse when the baby was brought in July 17 with a dangerously low body temperature. The infant was later transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital, where doctors found serious head injuries that prosecutors said could have lifelong consequences.
Defense attorney Lauren McDonough denied the allegations, arguing there is “zero evidence” Timmons harmed her daughter. A judge set bail at $100,000 cash, higher than the $50,000 requested by prosecutors.
Authorities also executed a search warrant at Timmons’ apartment, seizing electronic devices and a journal about the baby. The child’s father, Timmons’ fiancé, remains hospitalized in intensive care under circumstances authorities have not linked to the investigation. Timmons is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 31.
